The Calgary Japanese Community Association (CJCA) oversee's the Japanese community in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The CJCA is housed out of the Calgary Nikkei Cultural & Senior Centre located at 2236-29 Street SW.

We recently hosted a Japanese Cultural Experience event for Grade 8 students from a local school ☺️A total of 80 students participated, and with volunteers included, we had over 100 people at the centre—making it a very lively and busy day!Students rotated through three interactive stations: • Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) • Okonomiyaki cooking • Traditional Japanese gamesDespite being a weekday morning—and our first time running this type of program—we were initially unsure how everything would come together. Thanks to the incredible support and teamwork of our volunteers, the event was a great success. Most importantly, the students had a fantastic time exploring Japanese culture, which made all the hard work worth it.It was definitely a lot of effort… but a very rewarding experience 😂A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible!Mami Japanese Calligraphy:Eishun-Sho Artworks ... もっと見る表示を減らす

Big news for our community 🇯🇵❤️This past weekend at @sumofestyyc , the federal government and @calgaryjapanese announced over $4.4M in funding for the new Japanese Community Centre in Calgary through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. For those who may not know, the Calgary Japanese Community Association currently owns both its cultural centre and the adjacent 4-plex housing. While the space has served us well, it’s nearing the end of its life cycle—and our community has continued to grow beyond it.This new Net-Zero Carbon Cultural Centre is a huge step forward 🌱✨ Larger event spaces for classes, performances, and celebrations🍱 A commercial kitchen for cultural programming📚 A library + 🌿 a barrier-free Japanese garden🧘 A tatami room for traditional experiences like tea ceremonies🏠 doubling current housing that supports communityDesigned by CJCA member @henrytsangarchitect and @moda_yyc , the space incorporates Japanese concepts like wabi-sabi and ma—blending tradition with sustainability in a truly thoughtful way. This isn’t just a building. It’s a place that honours the deep roots of Japanese Canadians in Southern Alberta, while creating space for future generations to gather, learn, and thrive together. If you’d like to learn more, or are interested in leaving your own legacy as part of this project, we’d love to hear from you. And if you’re visiting the centre, don’t forget to check out the tip tap to support 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♂️ ... もっと見る表示を減らす
