Japanese Tea Culture with Noah Haruki – November 8th, 2025

Noah Haruki is a third-generation Japanese Canadian artist whose work serves as a way to explore and reconnect with his cultural heritage.
Since 2019, Noah has been training in the Japanese tea ceremony through the Omotesenke school. In 2024, he had the rare opportunity to deepen his practice by studying for a week at Fushin-an, the Omotesenke headquarters in Kyoto.

With the support of Calgary Arts Development and the Calgary Japanese Community association, Noah will present a live demonstration of the tea ceremony alongside a collection of artworks inspired by his time in Japan and his Japanese Canadian identity. The body of work includes ceramics made for use in the tea ceremony, offering visitors a chance to see these handcrafted utensils in both display and practice.

The show will also feature several paintings influenced by the aesthetics and philosophy of the tea ceremony. Noah works primarily in watercolour and traditional Japanese painting techniques.
