Kikiai Collaborative in Vancouver, B.C is organizing an intergenerational gathering and Obon ceremony in the former Tashme internment site (Sunshine Valley, B.C.).
With support from the Sunshine Valley Tashme Museum, Ensoku 2024 aims to bring 200 Japanese Canadians to the former Tashme internment site, which remains in the current Sunshine Valley B.C. (two hours outside of Vancouver). This inaugural event will facilitate community, culture and history through Obon customs, performance and learning. Ensoku 2024 will be the largest Japanese Canadian gathering and first Obon ceremony in the area since the Second World War.
Its primary day of programming takes place on Saturday (August 17th, 2024), with registration required to participate ($85/person with limited accessibly-priced tickets for $60/person* — includes lunch, performances and family resources; bus transportation is available at an additional cost.)
For those spending the weekend in the area or who might only be available on Sunday (Aug. 18, 2024), a few additional programs will be offered (more on our website).
